Odds for 2011 College Football

Well Vegas has spoken and as of now Alabama is the odds on favorite to win it all in 2011

Early Odds to Win 2011 BCS Championship
Alabama (7-2)
Ohio State (13-2)
Boise State (12-1)
Oregon (12-1)
Texas (14-1)
Nebraska (15-1)
Southern Cal (15-1)
Florida (16-1)
Virginia Tech (17-1)
Oklahoma (18-1)
TCU (18-1)
Iowa (20-1)

At the rate Oregon is going there might not be anyone left to play. I will say I find it interesting that odds makers believe that Boise will be given the chance to play in the championship. Anyway begin the countdown to college football 2011....

It blows my mind that Vegas is setting Alabama and OSU as such heavy favorites ahead of the field.

It also blows my mind that Vegas would make Boise State as the second runner up in the odds. Frankly, that's a sucker's bet as that one has no chance of paying off. Good for Vegas for trying to steal Boise State money. Those stupid fucking saps deserve to piss their money away into a bottomless pit of vast emptiness.

I agree with MJ that Boise State is a sucker bet. However, I think that Oregon's recent problems have left them as a VERY longshot from this bet. Also, I'm shocked that USC is ranked as high as they are based on all their off-season drama. Seeing this poll really makes me want to put some cash-money on Bama and Texas, as they seem like the only viable candidates for next year. Lucky for me that I'm going to Vegas at the end of April, for my bachelor party, a.k.a. Operation Jelly Belly.

From an oddsmaking perspective, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of difference between #3 (BSU at 12-1) and #12 (Iowa at 20-1). But while it's one thing to say that the BSUs and TCUs of the world are darkhorses in this range...the inference that they could be as close as the #3 most likely to win? That's just silly, if for no other reason than the fact (that we all know) that it's close to impossible for a non-BCS team to break into the title game, let alone to win it.

So as much as I support BSU, I agree that this is a sucker bet.

boise st and tcu are indeed sucker bets. the others are all reasonable bets given that college football has a great deal of uncertainty year-to-year.
