Here’s what we know a few games into the season:
-Tampa Bay’s bullpen is horrendous. They don’t have a lefty in the ‘pen and their righties can’t get anyone out. I’ve never seen a team have such a bad bullpen for 10 straight years and never make it a priority to correct this flaw.
-The Cardinals have an impotent lineup. Not fresh papaya, not Vitamin B-12, not even Viagra is getting this lineup to perk up. Outside of Albert Pujols and Scott Rolen, there isn’t a hitter in the bunch. I guess that’s what happens when your front office simply refuses to use the off-season for anything other than vacation...
-Just like the members of the 1972 Dolphins like to pop champagne after the last undefeated team loses a game, I think the members of the 1962 Mets might pop champagne that their pathetic inaugural season will be eclipsed by the 2007 Washington Nationals. It’s a shame that things will go so poorly just three years into the return of Beltway Baseball. It’s bad for business.
That’s all I know right now. I’m sure I’ll know more later. In the meantime, let us all put aside our differences and root for Barry Bonds to be shot with a poison arrow. I am dreading the countdown to his passing of Hank Aaron. Sigh…
