The Zen of Stupidity

Phil Jackson's the "new" Lakers head coach. I don't get it, I really don't.

Oh well, what's bad for the Lakers is good for me.

The thing about Phil is that he always taken good teams and made them great. The Bulls were a playoff team before Phil got there. The Lakers were a playoff team with Del Harris (aka Lt. Frank Drebin of the Naked Gun).

This current Lakers team just blows. They don't have the components to compete with the big boys. This is a completely different type of coaching, altogether Not only that but they need to prove they can trade/pick talent. Without the NBA Logo (Jerry West) the front office has seemingly been unable to succesfully draft or trade anyone . If Phil wins a chamionship ever again with this team it'll be his greatest feat ever

I agree, if Phil is successful in getting the Lakers back to the top, it will be some big-time coaching job. Personally, I don't think he can win in LA with the team he's got. I think the playoffs are a definite possibility but the Spurs, Rockets and Nuggets have too much size for the Lakers and the Suns and Mavs are too deep with scorers to be stopped by the Lakers. The Sonics, Kings and Grizzlies should all be better than the Lakers too. It will be interesting to see how it works out. It's no secret that I'm rooting hard for Phil, Part Deux to fail.

I should state for the record that I think Phil is a great coach and I don't bash him for winning with MJ, Shaq and Kobe. Other coaches may not have won with those guys (Don Nelson is a great example of someone that never wins, even with talent).

It always goes back to Don Nelson, who has to be one of the greatest regular season coaches who I know will never make any adjustments to succeed in the playoffs. Mike Fratello also qualifies. He had Dominique Wilkens & Kevin Willis in their primes and couldn't turn the corner. Granted, that corner was typically guarded by Larry Bird, who would turn to the dark side and slaughter a small village for an NBA championship.

As for Phil, I'm expecting big things, but not championships. He does have under-appreciate talent though with Caron Butler and everyone's favorite toke-master, Lamar Odom. But the championship is asking a lot.
