Another Question of the Day

Another day, another report of a Barry Bonds setback. I don't buy it. I think this whole knee thing has been very quietly exaggerated, in an effort to keep Bonds off the field. If his career ends at 704 HR due to persistent injury, Bonds retires (relatively) gracefully and sadly. But if he returns, and either gets caught doing 'roids or his performance falls way short, his final chapter will be riddled with questions - even more than the current amount - about whether he was juicing during his late 90s-early 2000s stretch.

So the question of the day is: Do you believe that Barry's really and this badly hurt?

I imagine Barry is hurt but as I've said earlier without the roids, Barry is a mere mortal and as such I wouldn't be shocked if he hangs it up.

You pose an interesting question. I have to assume that Bonds' contract with the Giants stipulates that primary medical care come from in-house team doctors or team-approved medical professionals. It seems odd that the Giants have gone out of their way to say that they haven't been involved in Bonds' surgeries or rehab process. It also seems odd to me that there could be so many setbacks to what should be very routine procedures. This case reminds me of Michael Jordan's 18-month hiatus from the NBA in 1993-1994. During that time, MJ was under investigation for gambling and associating with unsavory characters. Bonds may be serving an unofficial suspension, either self-imposed or in conjunction with MLB.

At the end of the day, however, I'm certain that Bonds will play baseball again. There is no way that Bonds or MLB will let this end badly. There is too much money on the other end of 714 HR's to be left on the table and if we know anything about Bonds or sports business in general, it's that money is never left on the table.
