Larry Brown: Genius Or Flaky Douchebag Redux

So Larry Brown just negotiated a buyout of his contract after just two seasons in Detroit. That probably goes down as his shortest stay in any head coaching job (not sure, just guessing). The man who can teach the game better than anyone going right now has no class and no shame. He should be completely and positively ripped for weaseling his way out of this contract and in no way should his reputation and integrity be left in tact.

That said, I invite Larry to take over the head job here in NY.

If nothing else, LeBron's and Larry's mutual distate for eachother would mean that NYC isn't where LeBron will go once free agency hits, which should no doubt please Clevelanders. Then again, LeBron may make Larry's ouster a condition of signing with the Knicks so anything's possible.

I think the Larry Brown Pistons divorce shows two things.

1) I applaud Dumars and the Pistons owner for finally saying enough was enough with Larry's constant flirting.

2) That said it will be interesting to see what the buyout is like. I imagine Detroit is going to force Larry to leave a lot of money on the table in exchange for being allowed to take that Knicks job.

3) 3 cheers for Flip Sanders. After (I might add unfairly ) being axed in Minnesota looks like he'll land on his feet.

The rumor in NYC is that Zeke has $12M a year waiting for Larry. No matter what money he leaves on the table, Larry will make it back several times over if he chooses to wear Orange and Blue.

Cheers to Flipper for landing on his feet. Too bad for the Pistons but their championship days are over. Flip's a nice guy but I don't think he's got that certain little ingredient to take his teams to the top. At least he never did in Minny and it wasn't for a lack of talent.

With the Pistons though, Flip Saunders can run a vicious zone defense at times, which was one of his favorite hobbies at Minnesota. The difference is that on Detroit, you actually have the personnel to do it. I don't think Wally and Spreewell were ever that great at running the zone, call it a hunch.

No question, Flipper will be able to use more creative defenses than he could in Minny. I just don't get the feelng from Flip that he's a championship coach. I don't know, call me crazy, but when I think Flip, I think 1st round choke job.

I see him as the Denny Green of the NBA. He always had the talent but there was always some excuse to be made for why he couldn't put it all together at the same time. Unfair, maybe, but true.
