MMBSD: Back to Normal

Mighty's view of the weekend in sports....

NFL
Yes for while we were thinking that the Patriots were waivering, that Brady wasn't clicking, and that the dismantled defense couldn't hold its own. Well the days of Patriots complete dominance might be gone but they still have more than enough to knock off the Ravens who had been looking the AFC's best. Sure it took a baloney call by the refs to ensure the victory but how's that different from any other year where the Pats would win. Yes all seems to be back to normal....

While Denver's 4-0 start is as surprising as any in the league (possibly only matched by Tennessee's 0-4 start) I want to bring out how over-rated Dallas perpetually is. While the media might deep throat Jerry Jones' bourgeious fantasyland it doesn't change the fact that the Cowboys continue to limp along. For all the criticism Dan Snyder gets (deservedly) for meddling and losing - his Redskins have won more playoff games this decade than Jerry Jones. Jones' Cowboys are a perpetual disappointment in the post-Aikman era. Not that I mind the Cowboys struggling but no different than Snyder perhaps Jones should consider finding someone competent to run the football operations.

College Football
If I told you there was a conference in which the reigning champion dropped two non-conference games after 4 straight BCS losses, nearly all the middle teams had lost their non-conferences, and the expected champion has played 90th toughest schedule you'd think the conference would be dinged a lot nationally. However the teflon conference seems to skate by despite Oklahoma and company dropping another non-conference. One wonders if a 3 loss OU (post Texas loss) or any other Big 12 team can get an at large BCS bid.

Once upon a time (we'll call it before last week) Iowa and maybe even Meechigan were looking to join OSU and Penn State as tops on the Big 10 this year then Sparty hung on to win against its in state rival and Iowa barely beat a Division IV team. Add to that an impressive performance by the big farm boys of Wisconsin and suddenly there's a lot more confusion. Luckily this week the Big 10 has its own semi-elimination week with Iowa v. UM and Wisconsin at tOSU.

Oh and Cal choked and USC looks to be back on track. In other words nothing new to report....

NBA
For those that haven't been paying attention its looking more and more likely like KG is indeed healthy. A healthy KG with Rasheed Wallace means the the Boston that struggled against Chicago might be closer to the Boston that won a Championship. I yield it to the floor but if I had to pick a favorite to win the East...I'm leaning a little towards the Celtics until the Cavs and Magic prove their new pieces fit...
