Just some quick thoughts from under the brim of my cap:
NFL
Injuries are starting to pile up. Maybe its a random pattern and this year is a little flukish but seems to me injuries are occurring at a fairly alarming rate. Check your fantasy teams, your team, the big bulletin board, whatever and there's a lot of walking wounded. Saddest of all this week was Trent Green's concussion. I hope Green recovers nicely and then retires. Given the evidence about the long term impacts of concussions, its nothing to even think twice about.
A few bounce backs for teams left for dead with the Chargers and Bears over division rivals. Its a long season and nobody should be counted out, except apparently the Saints whose plummet (a loss to David Carr) is beyond the realm of comprehension. Hey does umm anyone HAVE to win the AFC West? Oakland is in first a .500
College Football
Upsets? Parity? I dunno what to call it but there's a suicide watch in Vegas. Stanford, 41 point underdogs, beating USC? The Fighting Alumni taking out the Badgers? We are a few more upsets away from South Florida in the Championship game. Chew on that fact for awhile. One of the few rocks of consistency: LSU. LSU and Jacob Hester seemingly through sheer will, beat the hated Gators team to remain atop the rankings. Cal is currently two but given this season, is anyone thinking that can stay there? Heck anyone thinking more than one team will be undefeated?
NBA
Training camp has started. Keep your eyes peeled for Gutsy's always awesome season preview.
