Monday Thoughts… Election Week edition
This week will bring the end of TV executive’s favorite season namely election season!! The parties will spend down their last dimes handing the TV stations huge sums of money with the hope that the money will somehow attract voters. Enjoy the electronic machines brought you by the “Help America Vote Act” (it neither helps America nor does it help America vote… discuss).
Week 2 (Mighty on the road in NYC) is over. I hope he is alive. I think so. To see how much energy Mighty has and because election day reminds me of the swarm of lawyers that decended on Florida in 2000, I thought this comic is fitting for election night mob action. Here is to Democracy in action!!
In Washington, DC, we have election night parties. This one will be interesting. I don’t think anyone has a damn clue what will happen.
1) Any Given Sunday: Midseason Edition
The NFL Sunday left one undefeated team. Next week, the top ranked NFC Bears will take their show on the road for a match-up with the Giants. The Giants squeaked by the Texans!?!?!?!!? This begins the Bears East Coast road show (at Giants, at Jets Magana, at New England). We will discuss the Bears after these games. If the Bears sweep, I'll send Hitman a card. If the Bears lose 2, I'll send my bill.
Cobra Commander has a 2 game margin on Cincy. Who would have predicted the Steelers and the Steamers have the same record by mid-season? San Diego (whale’s vagina) and JAX have early claim to the Wild card in the AFC. The NFC isn’t nearly as clear since the Rams and the Seahawks can’t seem to win and NFC east is a disaster. ATL has one spot right now.
Okay, my NFL rant this week is with the Pats. After throwing the ball vs. the Vikings and running them into the ground, they decided on a track meet with the Colts. Well, they don’t have the firepower. That was the most miserable game plan I’ve seen. I remember what a ball control, hard running team did against the Rams in the super bowl. The Pats could have and should have stuck with the running game. Instead, Brady threw 4 INTS. So concludes my rant.
2) I wanted to send pre-emptive Cheers and Get Well Soon for Joe Pa. During Saturday’s game against Bucky Badger, he broke his leg and sprained his knee. Get Well Soon Joe Pa. You’re a college football icon and even with a broken leg, he wouldn’t sit down. He continued to call plays. That’s a tough 80 year old man.
3) Free Agency: this is usually MJ’s zone but it seems that the amount of pitching available on the open market (Zito and Schmitt) is significantly less than other years. The market has a few 2nd tier pitchers (Weaver, Suppan) but not many top starters. Why is this? Note: due to hitman's haloscan's comments, the question is expanded-- why the overall lack of talent in free agency this year?
