Week 2 – Don’t Panic

Just like in fantasy football, there’s no need to panic after the first week of the season. Granted, most teams will panic, but I really don’t think that there’s a need to overreact unless you have multiple injuries, or have an incompetent coach. Of course, the Browns have already panicked and have implicitly admitted they are going to lose a lot of games this season. Anyway, here we go, into week 2…

Manwich Matchup of the Week:
San Diego Chargers @ New England Patriots- Oh this is a dandy. I know there has to be bad blood on the Chargers sideline from how the Pats bounced them from the playoffs. Unfortunately, I just don’t trust Norv Turner to knock off 2 elite teams in back-to-back weeks. Norv will probably be all worried about Randy Moss, and Belichick will expect this, and then instead Wes Welker will get 190 yards and 2 touchdowns this week.
Pick: New England

Upset of the Week:
San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams – Not sure if this is really an upset, but the Rams are favored by 3 points at the moment. I like the 49ers as my surprise team, and they will have to beat the Rams at least once this season if they are going to make a playoff run.
Pick: 49ers

Atlanta Falcons @ Jacksonville Jaguars – If the Jaguars don’t win by 10 they have every right to panic.
Pick: Jacksonville

Buffalo Bills @ Pittsburgh Steelers- This game could get interesting. The Bills played fairly well to hang around with Denver, I wonder how they’ll be this week?
Pick: Pittsburgh

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns- I’m assuming that those outside of Pittsburgh and Cleveland didn’t see the most unreal play I’ve ever seen. Ever. 3 plays into the game, the Browns were punting. The problem was, the Browns punter was injured, so they literally signed some guy like 20 hours before the game. Right as the announcers point this out, the punter botches the punt and there’s a mad scramble for the ball, four penalty flags go flying in the air, and the punter somehow manages to punt the ball about 15 yards. Clearly, there was a holding penalty. But never, ever, could I have anticipated the following: 4 penalties: including 1 illegal procedure penalty on the Browns (that was declined) and THREE holding penalties by the Browns. The Steelers accepted one of the holding penalties to begin their first drive on the Browns’ 22 yard line.
Pick: Cincy

Green Bay Packers @ New York Giants- The Giants QB for the next month may be Jared Lorenzen, who weighs somewhere approximately 285 pounds. According to wikipedia at the moment I checked it, some nicknames he’s been called are: "Quarter(got)back", "Hefty Lefty", "The Pillsbury Throwboy", "J.Load", "Round Mound of Touchdown", "BBQ (Big Beautiful Quarterback)", "Barrel," and "J-Lo." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jared_Lorenzen
We can only hope he plays and is this year’s Tony Romo.
Pick: Green Bay

Houston Texans @ Carolina Panthers – What are the odds they let David Carr play to get out some aggression?
Pick: CAR

Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans – No, I refuse to believe in the Titans. There’s no way they will rush for 250 yards on the Colts. You know they can’t throw the ball!
Pick: Indy

New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers- The Saints breathe easier now that they get an easier game.
Pick: New Orleans

Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals – Nobody beats the Whiz! Except on Sundays.
Pick: Seattle

Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions – Of course the Vikings defense handled the Falcons last week. But this game is a much tougher challenge, against Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson. If the Vikings do well I’m going to start expecting a lot from them.
Pick: Minnesota

Dallas Cowboys @ Miami Dolphins – If you read my NFL preview, you know that I only have negativity in regards to the Dolphins.
Pick: Dallas

Kansas City Chiefs @ Chicago Bears – Somebody should tell the Bears to take it easy this weekend. I’m scared for the whole Huard family.
Pick: Chicago

New York Jets @ Baltimore Ravens – Backup QBs get eaten alive by the Ravens.
Pick: Baltimore

Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos – I want Culpepper! This is such garbage. I’m seriously rooting against Josh McCown because I really want to know what Culpepper can do.
Pick: Denver

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles – Is anyone even remotely impressed with the Redskins beating the Dolphins?
Pick: Philly

Last Week: 10-6
Season: 10-6
Manwich: 1-0 (thank you Ladanian Tomlinson!)
Upset of the Week: 0-1 (My "upset of the week" really has become a joke at this point.)
