Here’s a question that I’d love to get some feedback on: if you’re Les Miles and you’re the head coach of one of the two or three best programs in the country at LSU, would you quit the Tigers to take over what will most likely be the vacant post with the Michigan Wolverines?
LSU has a chance to compete for a national title this year. UM is one of the three or four most historically significant programs in the game, along with USC and Notre Dame. Coach Miles has ties to the Wolverines, both as a player and as an assistant coach under Bo Schembechler.
It’s too early to tell how this season will play out for LSU. If they play for, or win, the national title, I’d have to imagine that the pressure for Miles to stay in Baton Rouge would be tremendous. If the 2007 season is a disappointment, however, it wouldn’t shock me if Miles moved back to Ann Arbor.
What would you do if you were in Miles’ shoes? Would you give up on a top-3 program to take over a historically significant but less sexy team? Or would you ditch LSU because coaching at a marquee program like USC, ND, or UM is more important than being anywhere else?
