Good Night and Good Luck

I saw the movie of the same title this weekend. Not bad. Not as good as I was expecting but still no regrets on the 90 minutes I spent in the theater.

Now, I use this title for Bernie Williams. Bernie, good night and good luck. It was nice knowing you. Don't be a dope and play for another team next year. Don't be Jerry Rice. But, really, if you're done, enjoy your retirement. Stop by sometime and play in the Old Timers Game. Hopefully Boss hangs your #51 in leftfield at New Yankee Stadium in 2010.

My final eulogy for this team is that they were flawed but still good enough to have won the World Series. They simply didn't capitalize on their opportunities and anyone watching knows that there were many. The Angels won the series but they didn't do so convincingly. The Yanks beat themselves with careless errors and a lack of timely hitting. Oh well, them's the breaks. At least the Yanks aren't the Red Sox. At least the Yanks didn't get bitch-slapped in three straight games.

To the 2005 baseball season -- good night and good luck. See you in February when pitchers and catchers report.

(Finally, football season is here to stay...)
