I have to admit. I was quite impressed by Philly’s comeback and utter destruction of Kansas City in Arrowhead Stadium. I still can’t believe Dante Hall had a kick return and Kansas City still couldn’t win. If my memory serves me, Kansas City wins every time Hall scores. It’s really a bonus TD to cover a 7-point deficit! Ultimately, KC’s offense is flawed, as proven by the last 2 weeks. I can’t put my finger on it, but the line isn’t giving Green enough time, and the timing just is not there with the receivers. Philly has given some hope to the NFC teams that they can compete.
Manwich Matchup of the Week
Pittsburgh @ San Diego – Suddenly, everyone’s hopping back onto the Chargers bandwagon! I’m quite curious to see how Pittsburgh will try to stop San Diego. I’m also wondering whether San Diego can score 40 points for a third straight week.
Pick: San Diego
Upset of the Week
Cincy @ Jacksonville – Cincy finally gets to play a good team, and on the road, which must explain why Jacksonville is favored. I’m really tempted to pick Jacksonville, but no one knows when the offense will show up. No one seems to respect the Bengals, and I’m guessing this will be one of the last times I can use them as an upset pick.
Pick: Cincy
Baltimore @ Detroit – This game features tons of fantasy players who are struggling to put up some numbers. Coach Billick may try some new tricks, like sweep-left and sweep-right. I think the refs will find a new way to make the Lions lose by “accidentally” knocking down a Harrington pass. This will then cause a proposal to have mini-Ditkas as the referees, because they won’t get in the way as much.
Pick: Baltimore
Chicago @ Cleveland – Why can’t we call Kyle Orton “KO?” Do we have to wait for him to do something special, like throw for more than 200 yards?
Pick: Cleveland
Miami @ Buffalo – Gus vs. Kelly (Holcomb)? I think the rest of the NFL is already missing the old ‘Phins, aka the Dave Wannstedt Comedy Troupe.
Pick: Miami
New England @ Atlanta – No one in America knows what to make of New England now. They may get really lucky this week w/ Vick already being dinged up.
Pick: New England
New Orleans @ Green Bay – The good news for the Packers is that each week
they move 1 step closer to getting Matt Leinart in next year’s draft! BUT, if history tells me anything, that is that the Saints never put two consecutive good games together.
Pick: Green Bay
Seattle @ St. Louis – These 2 teams are impossible to predict. Mike “Two Face” Martz will be unpredictable as always.
Pick: St. Louis
Tampa Bay @ NY Jets – TB Coach Jon “Chucky” Gruden already got a gift last week from the refs, this week from the schedule, where he plays the ageless wonder, Vinny Testaverde.
Pick: Tampa Bay
Tennessee @ Houston – The Texans showed some spunk last week against the Bengals, and there’s never a better time to get that 1st win then against “the team that formerly lived in your city.”
Pick: Houston
Indy @ San Fran – Peyton finally realized what he needed to score some points. A new pre-game ritual where he screams out, “By the power of Grey Skull!”
Pick: Indy
CAR @ Arizona – I’m really disappointed with the inconsistency of the Panthers this year. Lose to Saints, beat Pats, lose to Dolphins, barely beat Packers. I think the key to this game is hoping that it’s not 110 degrees at kickoff. The heat was a major reason for the Cardinals going 5-3 at home last season.
Pick: CAR
Philly @ Dallas – I wish LJ Smith would do the “LJ” arm celebration that Larry Johnson did back when he was on the Knicks.
Pick: Philly
Washington @ Denver – Please end the optimism about the Redskins. They have no offense, and I refuse to believe.
Pick: Denver
Last week: 9-5
Season: 35-25
Manwich Matchup: 2-2 (Chiefs could not seal the deal).
Upset Special: 1-3 (Seattle’s kicker clanged the game-winner off the upright against the Redskins).
