In a post-script to my "Another Stupid Firing" post yesterday, the Tigers have hired Jim Leyland as their next manager. I guess Leyland is a masochist and loves managing enough that he's willing to watch a lousy team for the next couple of years. Either that or he's burned through all of the money he earned for his mail-in job with the Rockies a few years ago and he needs more cash to stock up on cartons of cigarettes. Either way, I don't understand why the Tigers were in such a hurry to make this move. Unless Magglio and Percival stay healthy next year, this is not a team that can get much past .500, if they can even get there at all.
Also, whatever happened to minority candidates getting a shot? So much for equal opportunity...
