Improving the NBA Playoffs

Its not often that ESPN's Daily Dime is decent but today is one of those days. A long standing argument between Gutsy and myself has been over playoff seating. Currently the NBA is set up that each of the three division winners get the first three seeds with the next 5 best teams rounding out the playoffs. The problem of course is that the division's are wildly unbalanced in terms of talent. The top three teams in Central have better records than any other team in the Eastern Conference and the top three teams in the Southwest Division are better than any other team out West (or at least the .500 Timberwolves who currently hold down the third seed).

This kind of system is going to ruin the playoffs. The idea is to have the two best teams in each conference playing for the Conference Championship, it allows for a slow building of tension rather than premature celebration. I can't defend the current set up anymore. Even the NFL pretty much relegates the struggling division winner to that of a wildcard team. So NBA, I'm calling you out. Change your system or I'm handing out lollipops and ass-kickings and I'm fresh out of lollipops.
