What would an overcast and chilly November afternoon be without me pointing out that Dan Shanoff is still a moron? From the latest installment of Daily Quickie:
Pistons top 100 again: Same old D, spanking new O. By the end of the season, fans will realize that Larry Brown handcuffed this team; Flip Saunders is letting them go on offense – and they're better for it.
Right, clearly Flip’s a better coach than Larry because the Pistons are 4-0. Now, remind me, how many playoff series has Flip Saunders won as a head coach? What was that, only one? Really? Wow.
This one is a no-brainer. Flip Saunders is a nice guy and I’m sure his players like playing for such a loosy-goosy fellow but he’s not even half the coach Larry Brown is. The Pistons will be only stay this good if their current roster stays the same. 10 years in Minnesota proved to me that Flip can’t win a championship on his own. If he’s going to win a ring, it’ll be on the backs of the players Larry molded into champions.
And, as a tie-in to beating my favorite drum of the week, I’ll say this: Dungy and his Bucs/Colts are just like Flip and his old T’wolves teams – they always put together a perfectly lovely regular season and then, WHAM, the playoffs come and go like a train-wreck at warp speed.
