Salute to the Steel City

I know this won't play well with our founding bloggers, Clevelanders both, but I've got to give big ups to Steelers fans. I'd heard that Pittsburgh was passionate about its football, but never quite understood that until tonight:

As you probably know, 2nd-year QB sensation and fan favorite Ben Roethlisberger was unable to play this evening, leaving the job to journeyman Charlie Batch. Charlie Batch is not, never has been, and never will be a great quarterback. He's hardly the kind of guy who fans flock to and adore.

But Batch has been playing competently tonight, and even had the sense (or nerve), at the end of the first half, to call his own number in a goal-line play with seconds left and no timeouts. After showing a replay of Batch punching it in for 6, ESPN panned the crowd - and there were, not one, but TWO guys screaming with #16 jerseys.

They ALREADY have #16 Batch jerseys!
