J-E-T-S, SUCK SUCK SUCK!

I don’t know if this story got any play outside of New York but this past weekend, the Jets attended the Giants training camp for a joint scrimmage. It is commonly accepted that these scrimmages are non-contact and are meant only as a chance to break up the monotony of two-a-day practices against familiar faces. Apparently no one passed along this information to Jets head coach Herman Edwards or his defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson.

Jeremy Shockey, the Giants’ starting tight end and arguably their most indispensable player, caught a ball over the middle and was gang-tackled by three Jets linebackers who, after bringing him to the ground, jumped on top of him in an attempt to seriously injure him. That started a rowdy brawl between the two teams that was temporarily squashed until Jets defensive backs laid out Giants wide receiver/punt returner Willie Ponder and took a shot at wide receiver Amani Toomer going over the middle. Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin started screaming at the Jets coaching staff and pulled his team off the field. Afterwards, the Jets coaching staff took shots at the Giants, saying “that’s how we practice” intimating that the Giants aren’t physical enough to match up with the Jets.

My guess is that this was done as a form of delayed payback for the hit former Giant linebacker Mike Barrow put on Jets QB Chad Pennington two seasons ago, breaking his leg and costing him 10 games of the regular season. To wait this long for payback is like the Mets taking a full two years to collectively decide if they should go after Roger Clemens in interleague play, back when he was on the Yanks. Just like the Mets, the Jets are a pathetic expansion team desperate for attention in a market that has no use for them.

So, anyway, that’s fine. The Jets want to play rough? The Giants will play rough with them in two weeks when the teams face off for real in the preseason. It is my honest hope that Coach Coughlin tells his guys to play dirty and go for knees and ankles. I’d love to see Chad Pennington lose that surgically repaired shoulder. I’m praying that the Jets defensive anchor, linebacker Jonathan Vilma, gets clipped in the back of the knee by one of our offensive linemen. I’m officially putting notice out that my firstborn goes to the Giants linebacker that drives through receiver Laveraneus Coles and breaks his sternum. Then, Coach Coughlin can smile, wink and tell Herm Edwards, “hey, coach, that’s how we play games.”

To the Jets players, coaches, front office, ownership and fans – a hearty F*CK YOU for playing dirty. The Giants won’t forget it. Coughlin’s old-school and he and his players are going head hunting now. Oh, and another thing, get your own damn stadium; we don’t want Long Island trailer trash in our park.

Herm Edwards PLAYS TO WIN THE GAMES. Although the fact that he can't tell the difference between games and practice might explain some of the Jets problems.

I hope the Giants have the Jets in their sights because by overlooking the Browns this week - it should give Cleveland the opportunity to get a win (possibly their only of the year)

I used to think you didn't schedule teams in the pre-season that you will face in the regular season was because you didn't want to give up any information (on players, on blocking techniques, formations, etc). However, this Jets-Giants could prove to show a more important reason -to avoid the danger you face in injury retaliation!
