Apparently, I get a channel on my TV that shows only old Nickelodeon shows. Upon this discovery, it just happened that Family Double Dare was on when I found the channel!
The show was taped in 1992, and here were the only four questions I saw [seriously, this actually happened]:
1. What is the name of the S.E. Hinton novel starring characters named Ponyboy, Johnny, Sodapop, and Two-Bit?
2. What is the name of the youngest child on the Simpsons?
3. What show was spun off from Beverly Hills 90210?
4. What state is home to the Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken Hall-of-fame?
When I first started watching, I thought that the one team was just trying to jack up the price by “daring” the other family. Everyone knows the novel “The Outsiders”--- parents and children alike. Of course, the other family would just get the question right, so it was a flawed strategy. Then, when the “double dare” occurred, I started to think how smart this family was.
The 12-year old son immediately answered (phonetically):
“Fiz –iz –i - cal Challenge!”
Needless to say, 3 of these 4 questions resulted in a “Physical Challenge”!!! Only question 4 was answered correctly (the answer is Kentucky, for those playing at home). I then realized that in order to maximize Physical challenges (and subsequent TV ratings), Nickelodeon recruited only the dumbest families in America. Or maybe just those families that had never heard of The Outsiders and were not watching Fox Television!
Granted, the final minute of the show made this 15-minutes worth it, as the 10-year old daughter unsuccessfully searched for 25 seconds in a messy pizza pie for a flag and caused her team to lose. It was hilarious.

That's fantastic. Oh, that useless little sister, she's always losing it for the family.
